Our Tactile System

The tactile system is the first system to develop in a baby in utero. This system is functional at only 7.5 weeks. The tactile system is vital as it plays an important role in the development of body scheme. A well-developed body scheme allows us to localize touch and establish a stable body image, which will influence our emotional and social skill maturity.

Some difficulties can be observed when these systems aren’t fully advanced yet. These difficulties involve educational and social learning problems related to body concept and body scheme.

Tactile defensiveness and tactile deprivation are two examples of the tactile system not working properly. There are treatments to facilitate and improve children diagnosed to help them live their life to the full potential.
